My Twitter Reviews: Part 3 (from 9-1-13 to 4-10-14)

I have been tweeting short 140 character Movie Reviews since I got on Twitter. I have alternated between taking great pride in boiling down a complex opinion about something to a short, but thoughtful tweet and feeling lamely self-important about it.

This third set of reviews (the first set can be found here and the second set can be found here) span the period from September 1, 2013 to April 10, 2014. There are 52 of them and they are all in chronological order (rather, the order in which I tweeted them).

And now, may I present to you… A Bunch Of Twitter Movie Reviews – Part 3: Continue reading

Muppets Most Wanted – A Facebook Thread (inspired by my movie review)

After I posted my review of Muppets Most Wanted (as a series of Bullet Points) here, I shared it on FB and it created some great conversation on how the new generation of Muppet Movies compare to our childhood love of the Muppets. Since we are all old, that basically dates back to the original movies and TV series, as well as their premier on Sesame Street.

I thought it would be fun to just post the thread here for posterity’s sake. Continue reading

Muppets Most Wanted – Movie Review (as a series of bullet points)

The Muppets factor into my earliest happy memories. I have a huge soft spot for them that overrides most reason. They just released a new movie. After how easy and fun my Bullet Point Review of Divergent was, I figured I would do it again, but this time about Muppets Most Wanted. Plus, I love Tina Fey.

So. Here you go. Continue reading

My Twitter Reviews: Part 2 (from 4-14-12 to 8-28-13)

I have been tweeting short 140 character Movie Reviews since I got on Twitter. I have alternated between taking great pride in boiling down a complex opinion about something to a short, but thoughtful tweet and feeling lamely self-important about it.

Cabin In The Woods – Movie Review

(Originally posted on Republibot.com on 4-19-12 – and then immediately posted here, too, for some reason…)

I have an approach to reviewing films that I rarely share called Perfect Film/Perfect Movie. Basically it posits that a Perfect Film is one that I can’t fault any of the choices made in the execution of the film – story, cast, plot, direction, etc. A Perfect Movie is one that I can tune into at any time and something cool or interesting is going on, regardless of the craft involved. Obviously Perfect Films are a much smaller group than Perfect Movies, but still overall, they are elite clubs with few members.

My Twitter Reviews from 9-06-10 to 4-06-12

I have been tweeting short 140 character Movie Reviews since I got on Twitter. I have alternated between taking great pride in boiling down a complex opinion about something to a short, but thoughtful tweet and feeling lamely self-important about it.

These reviews span the period from September 6, 2010 to today – March 13, 2012. There are 103 of them and they are all in chronological order (rather, the order in which I tweeted them). The Twitter API only returns back about 3200 Tweets – no idea why – so the ones before that are effectively lost for now. Also, I think I am still missing some that should be in that 3200, but that is because I had to sort through all 3200 tweets and isolate each review, so I suspect I deleted a bunch or missed them on accident.

And now, may I present to you… A Bunch Of Twitter Movie Reviews:

Land of the Lost – Movie Review

(Originally posted on Republibot.com on 6-7-09)

I am disappointed and heart-broken. I know that general consensus has been that this remake was a bad idea as constituted, but – if you follow me on Twitter (www.twitter.com/jobfaust) then you know that I am a dedicated and overly apologetic fan of Will Ferrell. I admit it – the guy makes me laugh. And he makes me laugh spasmodically. The relative quality of his films can easily be challenged, but the fundamental fact remains that, as it relates to me, almost all of his films have had 3 to 4 gut wrenching laughs that make up for all of the rest of movie’s failings.

Hairspray – Movie review (***1/2)

(Originally posted on i-Pocalypse.com on 7-29-7)

Ok, I will admit right up front that I am only passingly familiar with the original John Waters movie on which the Broadway musical (and thus by extension this film version of the musical) was based, and even though I can hold my own in a casual film geek conversation that involves John Waters movies, I really can’t pull off an in depth critical conversation of his filmography. I have no real excuse other than to say that during that period in my life when Waters was making his cross over from truly independent film to more mainstream type fair I was busy watching independent foreign horror and martial arts movies (not much different than what I do today). Having said that, based on how sweet and fun the story was for this movie, I might go back and revisit the whole Waters’ oeuvre.

Aeon Flux – Movie Review (**)

(Originally posted on i-Pocalypse.com on 12-17-05)

Aeon Flux is a bit of a conundrum to review as far as a movie goes. It is a big screen adaptation of an all flash over substance cartoon in which a scantily clad female assassin jumped through body contorting physical stunts in the pursuit of her quarry only to die at the end of each episode. And, oh yeah, each installment only lasted 2 minutes. And it was made for MTV – Music Television. You know, the place where intellectual depth is prized above all else, unless, of course there is the option of shaking your booty or spring break fashion show concerts or pretty much anything else sparkly that would catch the eye of an average attention deficit 15 year old. And did I mention she was scantily clad. Really scantily clad. I mean “electrical tape” scantily clad.

Avatar – Movie Review

(Originally posted on Republibot.com on 12-18-09)

Ok, so here goes – let’s just dive in and get the painful part of this review over with right up front and then spend some time on meaningless rambling and thoughts. Avatar, the movie, was much, much better than I expected – surprisingly so, but still not the masterpiece that you would expect or possibly hope based on the intense amount of effort and money that has been put into it. Why is that the painful part? Well… because I was hoping for a disaster of monumental proportions that I could make fun of endlessly and think back on in my old age fondly as the height of Hollywood overindulgence.
